Cassel Competition

The Harrisburg Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) sponsors a local chapter competition every two years (odd numbered). This competition was established locally and was named for chapter member Violette Cassel. This local competition now follows the rules of the national AGO Quimby Competition - regional competitions for young organists.

The 2011 Cassel Competition was held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, 64 West Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033. Ryan Brunkhurst was the winner.

The official rules governing this competition, including the registration form, were published in the June 2010 issue of THE AMERICAN ORGANIST. Competitors may compete in any chapter level competition in the region of their home or school. Membership in the American Guild of Organists is not required.

Rules, Requirements and the Application for the 2011 competition can be found on the national website.

The next competition will be held in 2013.
